When Life Is Too Much
Have you ever felt like you were one more hard thing away from completely falling apart? Like the weight of everything you're carrying — the loss, the grief, the disappointment, the unanswered prayers — was just too much to hold anymore? If that's where you are right now, then this message was made for you!
In this powerful sermon, Ricky opens up about one of the most painful seasons of his life, a stretch in 2020 where wave after wave of heartbreak hit all at once. The loss of his dad. His wife, Krista, hospitalized. A miscarriage on Mother's Day. A church falling apart. And in the middle of all of it, a single verse from 2 Corinthians 1:8 stopped him cold:
"We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure."
If you've ever felt that way, you know exactly what it means for a Bible verse to hit different!
Ricky shares that it's in these precise moments – the moments when life feels utterly overwhelming — that most people quietly give up on their faith. They stop trusting God's character. They can't feel His goodness. They lose sight of His love. And without even realizing it, they walk away from the very place God led them to. Maybe that's the edge you're standing on right now.
Drawing from Exodus 14 and the story of the Israelites trapped between Pharaoh's army and the Red Sea, Ricky unpacks two essential principles for standing firm when you feel like you have nothing left.
The first: Stay where God led you.
If God led you there, then the best thing you can do is stay there. But staying where God led is not just about your position, but also your posture. You need to stay calm (as Moses instructed) and stay flexible. Trust that if God led you here, He is the only one who can lead you out.
The second: Move when God tells you to move.
More often than not, the deliverance you've been praying for is on the other side of your willingness to act in obedient faith.
Ricky makes a compelling case that the trials you're enduring right now are not signs that God has forgotten you. They are proof that God is forging something in you that could never be built any other way. The crushing is not the end of your story — it's the making of it!
If you're ready to stop dreaming for the challenges and setbacks of life to be over and ready to start learning how to stand firm, this message will meet you right where you are.
